Orbit 3-Outlet Digital Watering Timer

The Orbit 3-Outlet Digital Watering Timer provides two programmable valves and one manual valve to regulate variable watering needs. The large display is easy to read and simple to program. It is a sturdy device that helps conserve water by delivering just the amount you want.Instead, you could turn the water on and off manually. But are you always available when it is the best time of day to water? Will it be convenient to interrupt your activities to turn off the water when it is time? Who will diligently water for you, when you are on vacation?

There are a variety of automatic watering  timers available. Some single-valve timers are slightly less expensive. Some are difficult to program. You could also pay close to $175.00 for a timer with just two programmable valves (no third manual valve).

Water Timer Review – What’s Good

It is so simple to program the Orbit 3-Outlet Digital Water Timer you may not even need to read the instructions. An easy-to-read dial allows complete timer control functionality. It cycles easily from set clock, set watering time, how often, how long, then run program.

It is designed to work with water pressure between 25 psi and 100 psi, so it will work with gravity-fed systems or city water systems.

A rain delay option lets you postpone the programmed watering times by 24, 48, or 72 hours.

Note that the Orbit 3-Outlet Timer has two programmable valves. The third valve provides handy access for manual watering, without disrupting the programmed valves.

Water Timer Review – Concerns

The programmable watering options are not infinite. For each valve, you choose a start time and then set:

  • How long to water: 1-240 minutes
  • How often to water: every 6 hours, 12 hours or from 1 to 7 days.

Only one valve can be open at a time. So programmed times should not overlap.

If your community permits watering only on specific days, (for example Mondays and Thursdays), you will need a more flexible timer. Or you could use this timer and set one of the valves to water once a week on one day and the other to water once a week on the other day.

The timer valves close quickly and you may hear banging of the cold water pipe if you have high water pressure. A water hammer arrester should solve that problem.

The Water Timer weighs close to two pounds and it may be necessary to use a bracket to support it, depending on the faucet connection.

Water Timer Review – Bottom Line

This Water Timer is a sturdy, affordable device to conserve your time, money and water. If you want an easy way to simplify a regular chore, get the Orbit 3-Outlet Digital Watering Timer.
